DESCRIBED AS A HOBBY THAT GREW
OUT OF CONTROL, KEN PARKER
HAS BEEN GROWING
INDIGENOUS PLANT MATERIAL SINCE 1992.

As a home owner, Ken was faced with the challenge of gardening in heavy clay and limestone. The inability to obtain Native plants locally inspired the creation of the Six Nations based retail nursery.

Owned and operated by Ken and his wife, Linda - SWEET GRASS GARDENS (SGG) opened its doors to the public on May 15, 1996. The overwhelming interest in the nursery lead to a feature spot on HGTV's - The Gardener's Journal.

Over the past few years, SGG has made quite a name for itself throughout Canada and the U.S. as a leader in Native plant knowledge. SGG is a small, family run business hiring nursery staff from within the Six Nations community.

Sweet Grass Gardens has also had the pleasure of training community members in horticulture and landscaping for the Ogwehoweh Skills and Trades Training Centre in Ohsweken.

Linda and Ken had a lot of fun as guest landscapers on the W network's hit tv show The Gardening Gamble. We were fortunate to be able to incorporate many Native plants in our garden designs over the four years involved with the show.

2006 was a great year in that Sweet Grass Gardens as two of several Canadian delegates, represented the First Nation community of Six Nations at the World Meeting of Food Communities held in Turin, Italy.
